Why is the GDPR important?

The EU Data Protection Directive prior to the GDPR dated back to 1995 when Google hadn’t arrived and Mark Zuckerberg was still in high school!

The GDPR represents a massive change, bringing data protection to a position where it’s up-to-date and fully aware of online practices.

For individuals, the GDPR introduces new Rights, giving consumers greater control over organisations which use their Personal Data.
For organisations, one of the biggest challenges involves ensuring that Data Subjects are able to exercise those Rights. This will involve a total change in how organisations handle Personal Data, and having to ensure appropriate consent is obtained for Personal Data Processing activities.

They will also have to review technical and organisational measures to make sure Personal Data is adequately protected and being Processed lawfully.
